Sam Baxter Interview
Tell me a little about yourself (in a few sentences):
I’ve worked within the finance industry for the past 15 years. During this time I’ve worked across most areas and have found myself within HR and Accounts for the past 8 years. Extremely determined and stubborn (just ask my wife) and will always put in 100% at anything I do in life.
What has been the proudest moment of your career?
Being able to work from an agent position to a position of management across multiple departments.
What hopes do you have for your industry moving forward?
Greater clarity and guidance from the FCA on how the financial service options available to consumers can offer further support.
How do you think a business can nurture employee buy-in for its objectives and values?
Open and honest communication is key. Also not being afraid to admit when you’ve made a mistake at any position in the organisation as mistakes can help you learn what you can do better.
What advice would you give to someone looking to work in a similar role to yours?
Ensure you build up a great relationship with all of your colleagues and don’t be afraid to get stuck into jobs others aren’t keen to do. Hard work brings opportunities and you need to take these when available.
What do you do to unwind?
Run, game and visit different places around the world with my wife.
What are the values within your job role?
Determination, honesty, focused and reliability.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t be afraid to put in longer hours to achieve what you want to. Dedication to everything in life will bring about success.
How would your partner describe you in three words?
Loyal, determined and stubborn.
What celebrity would you cast to play you in a movie about your life?
Hugh Laurie. His portrayal of House (sarcastic, stubborn and always has to be right) is a perfect description of me. That is, if you ask my wife.
